Tomato Sauce or Marinara Sauce originated in Naples. One theory of how SAUCE originated was that it was invented by “mariner’s” returning from America where they discovered a new fruit called the tomato during the 1700’s. Another theory is that tomato sauce was a LOVE remedy brought to Europe about 1540 and was to replace the reserve of peppers during the 16th century.
